The American Eagle gold coin's front, or obverse, is a reimagining of the beloved $20 Saint-Gaudens gold coin, featuring Lady Liberty. An interesting detail is the date format: Roman numerals were used from 1986 to 1991, while Arabic numerals have been used since then. The coin's back, or reverse, showcases Miley Busiek's design of a bald eagle landing in its nest.
American Eagle gold coins are made exclusively from gold mined within the United States. While the gold content is 22 karat (with other metals added for durability), each half-ounce coin guarantees a full half-ounce of pure gold.
The U.S. government stands behind the purity, weight, and gold content of American Eagle coins. This assurance makes them highly liquid assets, easily bought and sold globally, and consequently, among the world's most widely traded gold bullion coins.
