Produced from 1916 to 1945, the silver Winged Liberty Head dime, also known as the Mercury Dime, is one of the most cherished U.S. coins from the 20th century. It holds value both as a collectible and for its silver content.
Contrary to its name, the 1916-1945 silver Winged Liberty Head Dime does not depict Mercury, the Roman messenger god (Hermes in Greek). Instead, it is based on Elsie Stevens, a neighbor of the designer, Adolph A. Weinman.
