Introduced in 2006, the Proof Gold Buffalo was the United States Mint's first 24-karat gold coin. This one-ounce coin is crafted from pure (.9999) gold.
Based on the iconic Buffalo Nickel by James Earle Fraser, the coin features a Native American on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse. While the bison is believed to be modeled after Black Diamond, the identity of the Native American remains a subject of speculation.
